How rankings work

Each format has a separate basketball board. Daily rankings use the best eligible official result for the selected Eastern date, from up to three ranked attempts. Unranked practice never appears here. Outside the Daily, each account's first 3 drafts started on a leaderboard each Eastern day are ranked (5 with DreamDraft Pro). Later drafts that day, and guest drafts, are practice and stay off the board. Year and Franchise boards show all pools by default; use the filter to compare one season or club. Each account or guest browser keeps its best eligible result per pool. Equal grades rank by scoring, rebounding, playmaking and defense, and share a rank only when all of them match.

Each board opens on This month: every account’s best ranked roster finished in the current Eastern calendar month, from November 2026. Month boards count drafts started as ranked plays and list signed-in accounts only. All-time keeps every eligible roster, including guest entries published earlier. At 12:30 AM Eastern on the 1st, each board’s leader for the month that just ended is crowned its champion, with one per season on Year boards and one per team on Franchise boards. Managers tied on every number share the title, and titles show on the board and the champion’s profile.

The Daily’s month board adds up each account’s ranked Daily result for every day of the month, and its All-time board adds them up from October 29, 2026. Today shows a single day and its rosters. More total wins rank higher, then fewer total losses, then the higher total team grade, then scoring, rebounding, playmaking and defense. If every total matches, they share a rank and are listed by who finished their last Daily first.

Guests appear as Anonymous or a screened name. Every ranked entry has a public eight-player roster with its real season statistics. Private draft identifiers and sign-in details are not public.

Data sources and coverage

Season data: Sumitro Datta NBA and BAA records. CC0 1.0 (archive publisher listing).

  • Regular-season team stints from 1946-47 through 2025-26. Separate ABA records and combined multi-team player rows are excluded. The withdrawn 1954-55 Baltimore Bullets season has no recorded team W/L in this archive and is excluded.
  • Counting totals become per-game statistics using recorded appearances. A player needs 10 appearances and 8 minutes per game when minutes were recorded. Before 1951-52, qualification uses appearances and minutes stay blank.
  • Unrecorded statistics stay blank, including early minutes, rebounds, steals, blocks, turnovers and three-point data. A shooting percentage with no attempts stays blank.
  • Positions use the recorded season position. Where it is missing, the recorded career position supplies broad eligibility. No exact season position is guessed.
  • Stable Basketball-Reference IDs identify players across seasons and teams. Former team names are retained. Renamed clubs share a franchise; unrelated defunct clubs stay separate. Original Charlotte history belongs to Charlotte, while New Orleans has its own franchise.
  • The archive publisher lists this dataset as CC0 on Kaggle and identifies Basketball-Reference as its source. DreamDraft filters regular-season club stints, derives per-game statistics and maps roster eligibility. The published archive license does not establish ownership of upstream rights or license team marks and photographs.

Saved drafts from the previous catalogue retain SportsDataverse hoopR data, derived from ESPN, published under CC BY 4.0. DreamDraft filtered game records, aggregated team stints, mapped positions and calculated per-game statistics. Those saved drafts keep their original data and scoring model.

Frequently asked questions

What does the leaderboard grade represent?

Real NBA season statistics feed a separate basketball game model. The completed rotation receives a team grade from 0 to 100 and an estimated 82-game record. Both describe a game result, not a real-world forecast.

Why is a completed roster missing?

Each board has eligibility rules for its format and pool. Private competition entries and drafts outside that board’s rules stay unranked. Check the rules beside the board.
