Rules & scoring

Choose one player listed for this game from your league’s club before tipoff. Each manager gets a different player. The box score follows the real game, and TOTAL shows your Buckets score.

Listed players can include bench players. A listing does not guarantee court time.

  • One through five managers can play. The creator counts as the first manager.
  • The draft starts automatically 60 minutes before tipoff. Every manager gets an email, and turns begin 10 minutes later. The commissioner can start it sooner.
  • Each turn lasts 60 seconds. A missed turn uses your saved preferences, then an available legal player.
  • Selections close at scheduled tipoff or actual play, whichever comes first. A changed player list pauses the draft for review.
  • You can’t pick your player from the previous completed game again.
  • Your player keeps the points they earn in the game. Live totals can change after an official correction.

Buckets questions

How do I play Buckets?

Create a league, choose an NBA club and invite up to four friends. Each game’s draft starts automatically 60 minutes before tipoff, and every manager gets an email. Each manager drafts one player from this game’s player list. Follow the live box score and league chat on the same page.

Does every listed player start or play?

No. The pick list can include bench players. Being listed does not confirm a starting spot or guarantee court time. Your pick stays with that player for the game.

Can I play by myself?

Yes. A league can have one through five human managers. You count as the first manager when you create it.

What is the difference between PTS and TOTAL?

PTS is a player’s points in the NBA game. TOTAL is their Buckets score, which also includes rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and turnovers. The league page shows the scoring weights.

Do I have to refresh the scores?

The league page checks for score updates automatically while it is open. Game statistics usually update about every 90 seconds. Chat updates separately so you can keep writing and reading messages. A delayed source is marked on the scoreboard.

Can I change my pick after tipoff?

Selections close at scheduled tipoff or actual play, whichever comes first. Points belong to your selected player for that game. Your next game uses a new draft.
