How does the NBA draft game work?
Each turn reveals a random NBA team and season. Choose one player for an open spot, and the next team appears. Every player is ranked against players from the same season, which puts a 1960s center and a 2020s guard on the same scale.
The team grade weighs scoring at 40%, rebounding at 20%, playmaking at 20% and steals plus blocks at 20%. Players with small samples or few minutes move toward an average rating, and stats the league didn’t record yet count as neutral.
The basketball Daily Challenge starts everyone on the same draft with a 30-second clock on each pick. Year, Franchise and Finals Drafts narrow the pool to one season, one franchise or championship teams.
How hard is it to go 82-0?
Wins start at 41 for a team grade of 50 and rise by about 1.2 wins for every grade point above that, so 82-0 takes a grade of 84. The grade averages all eight players, so a single ordinary pick pulls it down. We checked every eligible player at every spot, and the highest grade the game allows is 86.3.
In 1,000 test drafts that always took the best-rated player available, most rosters finished between 63 and 69 wins. The best five tied the 73-9 Warriors, the best record in NBA history, which still left them nine wins short of 82-0. A grade of 84 needs a superstar from nearly every team the draft reveals, and by a generous estimate fewer than one draft in ten million reveals teams that good.
